City of Falls Church Mayor Robin Gardner notified the News-Press yesterday that she's preparing a letter to President-elect Barack Obama and his family, inviting them to enroll their children in the Falls Church City Public Schools.
Instead of chasing crushes and living up the end of his senior year at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, 18-year-old Drew Tener decided to focus his time and energy on something a little more proactive - he's teaching struggling first and second-grade boys how to read.

On Monday, Nov. 17, the youngsters – between the ages five and 12 years – hit the surrounding neighborhood streets with their chaperones for an hour-long walk after raising money for Homestretch, Inc., an organization based in Falls Church that helps families without homes get back on their feet with the help of transitional housing. Students made and decorated their own collection banks for the event. The walk itself started on the bike path at Virginia Lane and continued to Idylwood Park. At this year's Universal Dance Association (UDA) Fairfax Championship, held on Nov. 15 at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, the J.E.B. Stuart High School Dance Team placed second out of six teams that competed at Saturday's event.
