Editor Recommends: Cabaret, Arena Stage

One of the all-time classic movies, Cabaret won eight academy awards in 1972 and featured smashing performances by Joel Grey, Liza Minelli and Michael York. If it’s been awhile (if ever) since you’ve seen that film, then let your senses be refreshed with a highly-charged stage version now through October at Arena Stage. Arena’s own Mollie Smith directs, but it’s the same production based on the book by Joe Masteroff, the play by John Van Druten, with stories by Christopher Isherwood. Of course Harold Prince directed the Broadway version and Bob Fosse the film version. You’ll love Mollie Smith’s rendering.

This one’s an absolute must. www.arenastage.org.
