Maxine Kancler, Former Fairfax VFW Ladies Auxiliary Member, Dies

Maxine Ruth Shreve Kancler, age 61, of Petersburg, WVa., passed away Sunday, April 4 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. Born May 12, 1948 in Smoke Hole, WVa., she was the daughter of Vada Judy Shreve, Petersburg, and the late Harman Shreve. Maxine attended school in Pendleton County, WVa. and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Fairfax County.

Besides her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by two sisters, Victoria Stump and Josephine Proffit.

Maxine is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Kancler, as well as one daughter, Angelia Parrish and husband, Adam, Petersburg, two sons: Rocky Helmick and wife Michelle, Frederickburg, Va.; Daniel Helmick and wife Nicole, Petersburg; three sisters: Geraldine Dwyer, Alexandria, Va.; Marsha Carpenter, Falls Church; Nancy LaMaster, Upper Tract, WVa.; three brothers: Keith Shreve, Orlando, Fla.; Ronnie Shreve, Franklin, WVa.; Dennis Shreve, Maysville, WVa.; five grandchildren: Joshua and Kelsey Helmick, Fredericksburg; Blake and Brook Parrish, Petersburg; Annah Helmick, Petersburg.

Pastor Larry Cantu will conduct services at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, in Petersburg, Wednesday, April 7 at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends Tuesday, April 6 from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
