Jody’s Jam of the Week: COCHON 555

It’s pig time this weekend as the COCHON 555 tour rolls into town.

Five area chefs, five (area?) pigs and five winemakers will combine to deliver a truly unique culinary experience. The chefs -Jamie Leeds of Hank’s Oyster Bar, Bryan Voltaggio of VOLT, Bourbon Steak DC’s Adam Sobel, Traver King of the Ashby Inn and Scott Drewno of The Source- will each tackle a 175 pound hog (no, not phsyically) and prepare pork-centric dishes in a friendly little competition which will then be rated by guests and a panel of judges.  The mission of the 10-city tour, which has already traveled to NYC, Boston, Seattle and Napa, is to promote sustainable farming of heritage breed pigs and help family farms sustain and expand their businesses. Hey, that sounds all good and fine to me, but I’m just in it for the pig.

The event is this Sunday, beginning at 5 p.m., at The Newseum’s Knights Conference Center.

Here’s hoping you didn’t give up pork for Lent…
