Chris Hoge of Chris’ Marketplace might load up his truck with all types of seafood delicacies, but by and large he knows the customers at the Falls Church Farmers’ Market are coming for the crab cakes.

Those crab cakes, which readers voted as best find at the Saturday morning market, contain 95 percent crab meat and are made from locally sourced and steamed Maryland Blue Crab. The cakes even got the attention of Gourmet magazine, which ranked them among the best crab cakes in the world.

For about the past five years, Hoge has been selling the cakes, along with other items like cold soups, dips and empanadas, at the award-winning market.

Hoge sells his crab cakes at farmers’ markets across the D.C. area (not to mention to Whole Foods stores in Boston, New York and Chicago), and has a soft spot for the Falls Church market.
“It’s a family oriented market, which is why I really like it,” Hoge said.
