The club donated nearly $10,000 to nine groups this month. (PHOTO: LAURA SHERIDAN)The Woman’s Club of McLean donated a total of $9,900 to nine local charities and non-profits at its monthly meeting last Tuesday by presenting checks to their representatives.

The recipients were the McLean Project for the Arts; Share, Inc; Alternative House; Capital Caring (formerly Capital Hospice); Girls’ State; Fisher House; Claude Moore Colonial Farm; the McLean Volunteer Fire Department; and Friends of Pleasant Grove Church.

The donations were made possible by the club’s annual holiday homes tour that takes place every December and is the sole source of funds for its projects. All profits from the tour are turned back into the community in the form of many and varied service projects. In addition, the club makes periodic donations throughout each year.

This year’s holiday homes tour, the 46th year for the event, will take place on Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the River Oaks area of McLean. The resources raised by the tour will be augmented by funds from the MarketPlace, a simultaneous Woman’s Club event featuring a bazaar, lunch/dessert concession and silent auction, to be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, in central McLean.
