Mason Girls Hoops Team Ends Post-Season Run in State Semis

The George Mason High School girls basketball team was eliminated from the Group A Division 2 state tournament Friday morning in the semifinals by Floyd County High School, 78-67.

Floyd County went on to win the championship the following day in a 72-62 game against Central-Wise High School.

The Mustangs were given the Sportsmanship Award at the end of the tournament.

The game marked the end of an accomplished high school basketball career for senior forward Stephanie Cheney, who added 33 points during the game against  Floyd County to a record-holding career total of more than 2,100 points.
