318obitAgnes M. Henenberg of Arlington, mother of retired General District Court Judge Karen A. Henenberg of Falls Church and retired Arlington County Police Detective Cynthia L. Henenberg of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, June 21.

She was the mother-in law of David R. Lasso, former City Attorney and City Manager of Falls Church and Royal Murray of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

She was the wife of the late Kenneth L. Henenberg and grandmother to Kenneth M. Lasso and Benjamin D. Lasso.

Agnes, who preferred to be called Aggie, was born in Indiana and was a “Hoosier” to the bone, even as she lived in New York, North Carolina, and Virginia. She attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where she majored in English and Physical Education.

She loved the circus and was a lifelong member of Circus Fans of America. Agnes was an expert on antiques and operated an antique shop in Raleigh, North Carolina for many years.

A diehard Democrat, Aggie exposed her children at an early age to watching the political conventions on TV and encouraged political discussions at home. After the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, she compiled an historical scrapbook of his presidency and the days after his assassination. It is probably no accident that one of her daughters, one of her sons-in-law, and one of her grandsons majored in Political Science in college, and that the whole family keeps abreast of current and political events.

Agnes was a devoted wife and mother, who encouraged her children and grandchildren to achieve their potential and follow their passions. She was fiercely independent and encouraged independence in her children and grandchildren. Her grandsons were the light of her life, and she loved watching her grandson, Ben, play in golf tournaments and her grandson, Kenny, perform with his rock band.

She will be cremated and inurned with her late husband, a World War II veteran, in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery later in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
