In its competition debut, Sun & Moon Taiji One of Falls Church won the national team championship and several individual gold medals at the 2013 USA Wushu-Kungfu Federation National Championships last Saturday at the Sheraton Premiere Tysons Corner. Instructors Mickey and Melody Lee, and three of their students won 16 gold medals in individual competition. With three additional students, Sun & Moon Taiji One’s eight-person team took home the national team championship in tai chi, earning the top score among five entries. Leading up to the national championship, Sun & Moon Taiji One’s performances at the 2013 Chinese Culture and Community Service Association Lunar New Year Festival and the 2013 Fiesta Asia Street Festival in Washington, D.C. prepared them for stiff competition at the tournament. As a team of rookies going up against seasoned veterans, Sun & Moon Taiji One won the title by a 0.01 average score.
