Painter described the two-year Automotive Technician Training Program consisting of full-time on-the-job training plus one day per week of classes offered to high school and GED graduates leading to full-time employment as auto service technicians. Scholarships and veteran benefits are awarded to qualified young men and women accepted for the program sponsored by the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association to help alleviate a shortage of experienced auto technicians. Some Rotary clubs in the Washington, D.C. area also contribute funds toward the cost of needed tools for each student. The program utilizes facilities at the Falls Church Marshall Academy Automotive Lab at George C. Marshall High School. (Photo: Courtesy John Karickhoff)
