Next week, Oct. 21 – 25, Falls Church City Public Schools, along with the Falls Church Police Department, will observe National School Bus Safety Week. This year’s theme is Stand Back from the Yellow and Black!
Each day more than 2,000 students ride to and from school in 12 school buses; it is the aim of the Schools and Police that all of those students are safe as they wait for the bus, as they load and unload from it, and while actually riding it.
Throughout the week, officers will saturate patrols at bus stops to enforce traffic safety laws and will also ride along in school buses to educate riders on bus safety.
Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to always obey traffic laws and to be cautious around buses and bus stops.
In the coming days, the Schools and Police will also be launching their School Bus Safety Program to stop illegal passing of school buses by motorists, another initiative to ensure the students’ safety as they travel to and from school.
