FIRSTfriday of Falls Church will again celebrate the work of talented young local artists with the 13th annual Falls Church City Student Art Contest. All area students in grades K through 12 who attend school (public or private) in Falls Church or reside in the City are welcome to submit. Entries must be delivered to the school’s representative or directly to Art and Frame of Falls Church at 111 Park Ave., Falls Church, by 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12.
Judges will select 10 semifinalist entries from each grade grouping (grades K – 1, 2 – 5, 6 – 8, and 9 – 12) to be put on display in the gallery space at Art and Frame of Falls Church. From those, 13 finalists will be chosen to be featured in the 2014 Student Art Contest Calendar.
The theme for the 13th Annual Falls Church City Student Art Contest is “Faces of Falls Church.” Contestants are asked to submit artwork that illustrates this theme. This can be interpreted literally, figuratively, or abstractly. With this theme, traditional portraiture is not required, but is welcome if that is how the artist chooses to interpret the theme.
All contestants are invited to the gallery opening reception and award ceremony taking place at Art and Frame of Falls Church on Jan. 3 from 6 – 8 p.m. regardless of whether or not their submission was chosen as a semifinalist. The 13 winners featured in the online calendar will receive additional prizes to be announced the night of the event.
