West was one of 10 finalists for the Grammy’s first-ever Music Educator Award. The national award was established to recognize current educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. More than 30,000 music teachers were nominated. West and George Mason High School each were presented with $1,000 checks to support music education. (FCCPS Photo and Video)
