Falls Church High School’s varsity football team will host Annandale High School in Falls Church’s second annual Mosaic Bowl tomorrow night.
The game, which is sponsored by the Mosaic district shopping center, is a battle between two local high school varsity football teams to kick off the new season.
In 2013, the Falls Church Jaguars went 8-4 on their way to winning the Conference 13 regular season championship. They also beat McLean High School 28-21 in legendary fashion during the inaugural Mosaic Bowl.
The McLean Highlanders had just knotted up the game at 21 during a late possession in the fourth quarter and kicked it off to the Jaguars. The Jaguars got the ball on their own 20-yard-line and called in a trick play that resulted in a tiebreaking 80-yard touchdown with 22 seconds to play.
The team the Jaguars will face in this year’s Mosaic Bowl, the Annandale Atoms, went 1-9 during their 2013 campaign.
Their only win was a 22-16 victory over J.E.B. Stuart. They also lost to the Jaguars 43-27 in the first game of the 2013 season.
