Mason Boys Close in on State Tourney

(Photo: Bob Morrison, Bonnie Briar Productions, LLC)George Mason High School seniors Alex Goetting and Xavier Alarcon claimed the Region B doubles title, defeating the tandem of Zach Pack and Jay Howard 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the finals to advance to the state tournament next week at Radford University.

The Mason High boys tennis team is on the cusp of joining their senior leaders after defeating Wilson Memorial in the semis last Saturday. The Mustangs will now face Randolph-Henry High School in the finals of the Region B team competition at Randolph-Henry this Saturday.

The school will also serve as the venue for the singles competition as well, where Goetting will look to advance to Radford after dispatching Ryan Coon of Buffalo Gap in the semifinals last Friday, May 25.
