After five years in the Falls Church community, Aldo’s Italian Steakhouse has closed its doors. While owner Al Frye had hoped the space would continue as Aldo’s to serve his loyal customer base including the Falls Church Lions Club, a new restaurant will be opened in its place. Frye, a longtime DC restaurateur, is taking some well deserved time off before getting back into the food and catering business. Bratt Décor has opened in Idylwood Plaza at the old Storehouse Furniture space located at 7505 Leesburg Pike in Falls Church (in the old Storehouse furniture space). This is the second location opened by the Baltimore-based diaper set design house providing upscale nursery and kids’ room furniture and accessories including cribs, infant and youth furnishings, bedding, toys, games, and gifts. CareFaxLTC, a new, non-profit organization in Fairfax which is focused on long term care services, opened on May 1, 2007. CareFaxLTC is working toward the expansion of affordable assisted living, the addition of day support programs for young adults with severe disabilities, and the provision of benefits for workers who provide direct care to people who are elderly or have disabilities. CareFaxLTC seeks to improve access to long term care services, raise and broker funds to expand the kinds of services available and prevent the duplication of services. The organization is initially funded by Fairfax County, but it plans to become self-sustaining as it grows. The City of Falls Church and the Falls Church City Public Schools are holding a job fair on Saturday, June 9th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Cafetorium of Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. A seminar for those considering a position teaching will be held at 10:30 am. Attending will be representatives from the Schools, the Police Department, Mary Riley Styles Library, Department of Parks & Recreation, and the City of Falls Church. This is a terrific event for those considering switching careers, going back to work, recently retired or just graduated or anyone looking for part-time work.

The City of Falls Church is the only jurisdiction in Commonwealth of Virginia that has the entire city designated as a Technology Zone. Designated technology businesses located within the boundaries of Falls Church are eligible for total exemption from Business, Professional and Occupational License (BPOL) taxes, up for the three years. For technology companies locating within the City, a simple request can translate into thousands of dollars saved each year, during the critical start-up period.
