GCM Makes a Splash

With a new coach at Marshall High, the Statesmen swim and dive team had an impressive showing before their winter break began, as the boys narrowly defeated Stone Bridge High 128-119.

The boys were led by the 200 medley relay team of Gavin Campbell, Vincent McLeese, Jaroum Aueleta and Scott Witt, who placed first in the duel meet. Campbell also took first in the 100 backstroke, while Witt finished atop the 100 freestyle standings.

Other winners for the Statesmen included Daniel Bui in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breastroke, Hynwoo Koo in the 200 individual medley and Andy Reilly in the 500 freestyle. Reilly also placed second in the 100 backstroke, while Witt narrowly finished second in the 50 freestyle.

While their female counterparts did not fare as well against the Bulldogs, numerous impressive finishes led coach Dana Stramm to believe that this season will be an extremely successful one for the ladies.

Lauren Parkhurst took first in the diving competition, with Kelly Crider finishing second. The day was rounded out by Leah Noordhuizen finishing first in the 500 freestyle.

Following the holiday break, the Statesmen return to the pool this Friday, hosting McLean High at 6:30 p.m.
