GMHS Bowlers Do it Again

For the 9th time running, the George Mason High School Academic team has won the Bull Run District Tournament. The team began its rocky ascent to victory by slaying Strasburg with a big 285-155 win. Senior captain Peter Davis led the way by nailing 10 tossups, propelling the team forward. In the semifinal round, against their toughest competition, Rappahannock, GMHS prevailed again, assisted my senior Brennan Downey whose six tossups helped blaze the way to finals, with a 230-155 win. There again they faced Rappahannock, off to a shaky start George Mason suffered their first defeat of the year, after 58 district wins. Down to one final game, the team came bounding back, taking a quick 40-0 lead. With Brennan Downey and Adam Gann fighting strong, with 5 tossups each, the team prevailed. The rest is history. The George Mason Academic team took the district title with a respectable 230-160 win. Next the team confronts Luray at the Region B Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2. At Luray they hope to qualify for their 7th straight state tournament allowing them the chance to stay at the top and bring home the state title once again this year.
