The U11 boys continued their winning ways with a 4-2 victory over Stafford at Stafford High School on Saturday. Stafford tallied first before Falls Church reeled off four goals to gain control of the game. Leading the scoring was Brandon Ward with two goals followed by Eriksen Johansen and Jackson Cogar with one apiece. Johansen assisted on one of Ward’s goals and Cogar provided the assist on Johansen’s goal. Andrew Trauth and Sean Fitzgerald scooped up four ground balls apiece followed by Johansen with three. The U11s will scrimmage the Alexandria U11A team this week to prepare for the upcoming playoffs.
The U13 boys came away with two close victories this past weekend. On Saturday, the U13s defeated Fort Hunt 7-6 at Carl Sandburg Middle School. Falls Church got goals from Aidan Thayer, Robby Moore and Peter Kress in the first half, but found themselves down by one. Robby Moore ran the length of the field from his long stick defenseman position to fire a resounding shot into the back of the net to the delight of his teammates.
In the second half, Sean Cormany and Preston Custer scored before Thayer scored two more, one off a feed from Cormany, to put the game away. On Sunday, the U13s traveled to Prince William and came away with a hard fought 3-2 overtime victory. The U13s were sluggish from the previous day’s game but overcame it to gain this hard-fought victory when Cormany fed Thayer from behind the goal for a quick shot into the net.
Thayer and Nick Zavala accounted for the other two goals. The defense, anchored by goalie Nathaniel Schwarz, kept Prince William from mounting a serious scoring threat all day.
The Falls Church U11 girls defeated Arlington by a score of 15-3 on Sunday at Wakefield High School, finishing the regular season with a 5-3 record. Rachel Barrett played her first game as a goalie and made some fine saves. She was supported with strong defensive efforts, particularly by Lauren Wilson and Rae Mondragon. The Falls Church offense successfully controlled the ball, creating many scoring opportunities. Players scoring goals included Maddie Hof (4), Sarah Lubnow (3), Samie Boryan (2), Maeve Donnelly (2), Claire Tourkin (2), Claire Saunders and Rae Mondragon.
The U13 girls ended their season against Arlington with a 10-4 loss at Wakefield High School. Victoria Nnaji scored three goals and Kendall Swenson scored the other. The girls were excited and thrilled with the progress that they have made thus far.
Brooke Strong played in the goal despite having a broken toe. Jeeha Nnaji, Emily Bell, Julia Western and Katie Keating performed well on defense. The middies included Kaelin Seitz, Emily Rosenberg, Maeve Curtin, Caroline Metzmaier, Caroline Johnson, Haley Zullos, Victoria Nnaji, Andrea Philbin and Kendall Swenson. Offense was comprised of Kallen Shea, Abby Van Buren, Emma Washa. Players that couldn’t make the game, but had a great season were Ellen Francis and Susannah Whittle.
The boys teams get back in action on May 31 at Larry Graves field prior to the playoffs the following week. The girls U11 team will play their playoff game beginning May 29, location to be determined.
