The Falls Church City Public Schools have established a new award to recognize Falls Church businesses that have played an active role in the city’s public schools.

The Business in Education Partner of the Year Award is being launched in honor of the Schools’ 60th Anniversary and will be presented at the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Gala on March 28. BIE Partner of the Year Award nominees will be evaluated based on volunteer activities and their commitment to sharing professional expertise and/or monetary donations with the Falls Church City Public Schools. Partnerships can be with an individual school (Mt. Daniel Elementary School, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School, or George Mason High School) or the entire school division. Nomination forms are available online at www.fccps.org/bieaward. They can be submitted online or as printed copies. The nomination deadline is Wed, Feb 25. Two Falls Church businesses were recognized as grand award winners at the 2008 Capital COTY Awards on Jan 24 representing the best of the best in remodeling and design-build. Sagatov Associates received the honor for Best Residential Interior of $250,000 and Under and Emerson Contractors received for Best Entire House Under $250,000. These two Falls Church businesses were among the 43 remodelers and design-build firms representing 100 projects recognized by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry Metro DC Chapter as grand, merit, finalist and honorable mention award winners over 30 categories. Additional grand award winners from Northern Virginia included Michael Nash Custom Kitchens & Homes and Winn Design, LLC from Fairfax, TriVista USA, LLC and Morris-Day Designers & Builders of Arlington, Bowers Design Build, Inc. of McLean, G&M Contracting of Vienna, and Mowen Construction, LLC of Sterling. The Falls Church Foot and Ankle Center has partnered with the medical rehabilitation humanitarian group Healing Hands for Haiti (healinghandsforhaiti.org) for its annual shoe drive. Healing Hands provides therapy services (medical, physical, occupational, speech therapy) for those in need in Haiti. They also teach caregivers how to work with children with disabilities. The podiatry office, owned and operated by Dr. Paul Cannon, will be accepting donations of gently used children’s footwear (infant-teen) through Feb 20. Shoes can be dropped off Mon, Wed, Fri from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Tues from 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. This is the third year of the drive which has collected more than 400 pairs of shoes. Falls Church Pilates is now offering massage therapy for its clients participating in private Pilates sessions, group mat classes, BetterBody Strength classes, or after working out on one of their complimentary cardio machines. The Honorable Bobbie Kilberg, President & CEO of the Northern Virginia Technology Council will be the keynote speaker for The Business Bank sponsored Power Networking Luncheon for the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce on Thu, Feb 5. NVTC is recognized as the national leader in providing the technology community with specialized services and public policy advocacy. The event will be held from 11:30am -1pm at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Tysons located at 1960-A Chain Bridge Road in McLean.
