VPIS Hosts F.C. Community Yard Sale
The 42nd Annual Falls Church VPIS (Village Preservation & Improvement Society) Attic Treasures Sale will be held this Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

FIRSTfriday Celebrates Month of May
May’s FIRSTfriday festivities will kick off this Friday, May 1 at various locations aroud the City of Falls Church. Red, White & Bleu Wine and Gourmet (127 S. Falls Church Natives Recognized for Academics
From Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va., Cadet Alexander Pennington was named to the president’s list. Pennington, a junior, is the son of Catherine and Geoffrey Pennington of Falls Church. His younger peers, 7th grader Andrew Pak and 8th grader Ryan Pile, made principal’s list. Pak is the son of In and Young Pak of Falls Church, while Pile is the son of Nancy Murphy, Esq. of Falls Church and Ruel Bagol Pile of Arlington.
Randolph-Macon Academy is a college-preparatory, coeducational boarding school for students in grades 6 – 12. President’s list students have earned a 4.0 GPA or above. Principal’s list honorees have earned between a 3.3 – 3.99 GPA. Kasha Marie Klinegores of Falls Church was named to the dean’s list of distinguished students for the fall 2008 semester at Roanoke College in Salem, Va. Klinegores is the daughter of David Kline and Dr. Connie Gores. In order to be named to the dean’s list at Roanoke College, a student must be enrolled in at least four units during the term and earn a GPA of at least 3.50.
O’Meara Talks Hostas at Community Center

LCNV Announce Date Changes for Tutor Training
Per a previous mention in the News-Press of sought-after volunteers for the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia (LCNV), the rescheduled dates for basic literary tutors training are now May 16, May 30 and June 6, instead of May 9, May 16 and May 30.
These consecutive Saturday training sessions will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the LCNV of the James Lee Community Center (2855 Annandale Rd., Falls Church). Arlington’s Murphy Appears On ‘Jeopardy’
Liz Murphy, a 30-year-old Foreign Service officer from Arlington, appeared on “Jeopardy” last Thursday evening. Murphy, an A.B. history undergraduate from Harvard University enjoys spending her free time reading, cooking and traveling. How much money Murphy may have won is not yet known.
“I was out of my mind with anticipation,” said Murphy. “This experience has been one of the most exciting and fun opportunities ever.”
McLean Cinco de Mayo Celebrations Offered to Kids
The McLean Community Center (1234 Ingleside Ave., Falls Church) will be hosting Cinco de Mayo parties for fifth and sixth graders this Friday, May 1 from 7 – 9 p.m. The children’s event costs $20 for McLean Community Center district residents and $25 for all other attendees.

Partnership for Youth Hosts Jazz Concert
Promote mentoring and aid students on suspension from school in Falls Church and Fairfax County while enjoying the jazz of Ericka Ovette and the Stolen Moments Jazz Quintet. 25th Annual Capital Hospice Plant Sale Kicks Off
Sale items include native plants, perennials, annuals, shrubs, trees, bulbs, ground cover and gardening items. Admission is free and refreshments will be available.
