G.M.H.S Students Praised For High Scores
A group of students from George Mason High School were recently honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program for receiving high scores. Students recognized were Dean Ball, Hannah Boning, Katherine Buenneke, Jordan Cheney, Julia Douglas, Mary Glover, Wendy Herbst, Grace Kuipers, Natan Lailari, Jason Liew, Graham Overby, Samuel Parker, Emilio Ramos and John Western.

Although these students were not named semi-finalists, they are still praised for their outstanding academic achievements.
F.C. Schools Sell Poinsettias And Holiday Wreaths
Falls Church City Public Schools are sponsoring a poinsettia and holiday wreath sale to raise funds for the Falls Church City Band Boosters.
The poinsettias are available in red, white, pink and marble. Small poinsettias consisting of 3 – 4 blooms cost $12, medium poinsettias with 4 – 6 blooms cost $15 and large poinsettias with 7 – 12 blooms cost $20.
Holiday wreaths are available in two sizes: 12 – 14 in. and 20 – 22 in. Smaller wreaths cost $15 and larger wreaths cost $20. Orders will be delivered to George Mason High School (7124 Lessburg Pike, Falls Church) the week after Thanksgiving. To place an order, call 703-538-1691.
Mt. Daniel Celebrates Back-To-School Night
Mt. Daniel Elementary School will host a Back-to-School Night on Thursday, Oct. 8 to give parents and teachers the opportunity to meet and discuss upcoming school events. Trinity School at Meadow View Hosts Open House
Trinity School at Meadow View, the only private high school in Virginia recognized as a Blue Ribbon School, invites families to learn more about the curriculum at an Open House on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 1 – 3 p.m. The event will include Q&A sessions and guided tours of the facility (2849 Meadow View Rd., Falls Church). The Mustang Ambassadors and 8th graders of George Mason High School (GMHS) will have a bake sale on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. to raise money for the new school year. F.C. Schools Honor Athletic Hall of Famers
Falls Church City Public Schools will host the Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet honoring the star athletes in local schools. The banquet will be held in the Mustang Gym at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School (7130 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church) on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Fairfax County Schools Win Thoth Award
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has been named the winner of the 2009 Thoth Award by the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for achievement in communications and public relations.
FCPS was honored specifically for its community campaign on changing school start and dismissal times. The campaign used study circles, surveys and community dialogues to measure the impact of the proposed changes to the bell schedule on families.
Marshall H.S. Marching Statesmen Win 1st Place
The Marching Statesmen of George C. Marshall High School were awarded first place in the USSBA Northern Virginia Regional Marching Band Competition.
Congratulations to the Statesmen, Band Director Paul Vesilind and this year’s drum majors Michelle Flores and Jordan Rennert.
McLean H.S. Organizes Parent Information Night
McLean High School has arranged a Parent Information Night on Thursday, Oct. 8 for parents interested in learning about the programs, services and opportunities available through advanced academic programs, formerly known as gifted and talented programs.
The information session will be held at McLean High (1633 Davidson Rd., McLean) from 7:30 – 9 p.m.
