Jaguars Basketball Coach Joe Cascio Dies, Age 56

Following a long bout with brain cancer, Falls Church High School Coach Joseph Cascio died  Saturday, Feb. 20. He was 56.

Coaching the boys teams since joining the staff in 2007, Cascio was also head coach for the boys junior varsity team for two seasons. During the summer, he helped Jaguars develop their skills during the basketball camps at Falls Church High.

After his second season with the Jaguars, doctors discovered a brain tumor that was later surgically removed.

Despite being under medication, Cascio remained active on the Jaguars staff through this past season, as JV head coach and as an assistant coach on the varsity boys team.

Cascio is survived by his wife, Helen; his children, Elizabeth and Joseph; his sister, Maria Medigo; his nieces, Alessandra and Gina; and his extended family.

Cascio’s friends may call at the Murphy Falls Church Funeral Home (1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church) from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 25, and Friday, Feb. 26.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter’s Prep School in Jersey City, N.J., or to the Falls Church High School Basketball Program.
