Children and teens from ages preschool to 18 years will be awarded a free book if they complete Mary Riley Styles Public Library’s summer reading program, “Submerge Yourself, Dive Into a Good Book.” Those interested can pick up a book log to record their summer reads beginning Monday, June 21.

However, the program isn’t the only youth-geared events being offered this summer.

Weekly “It’s Showtime” children’s entertainment will kick off Wednesday, June 23 at 7 p.m. First up is Bob Brown with his puppet performance of “Clowning Around.” Future performances include music, a magic show, “Reptiles Alive,” “Mad Science,” Polynesian dancing, birds of prey, and the F.C. library’s first-ever rock concert.

Starting July 6, every Tuesday at 2 p.m. is Wii Game Day for kids ages 7 to 14 who have registered to play. Wednesdays at 2 p.m. is Bingo for ages 4 to 6 with a parent or guardian, and ages 7 to 14. Thursdays are craft days, when the whole family can drop in between 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. to get creative.

But how many sea creatures can the library staff fit in a jar? Guess correctly and win a prize.

Summer story times begin July 6 and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. through Aug. 19. Children ages 2 to 5 can include stories read during story times on their Read to Me book logs.

All of these events and more will be held at Mary Riley Styles Public Library (120 N. Virginia Ave., Falls Church). For more information, contact the youth services department at 703-248-5034.
