The national headquarters of the Challenge Days and Be The Change movement announced today that a 12-part reality TV series following students before, during and after Challenge Day immersions at 12 high schools in the U.S., will begin airing on MTV this Tuesday, July 20, at 11 p.m. EDT. The series is entitled, “If You Really Knew Me.” Each week, featuring a different high school, five students are followed from different cliques as they go through the experience of Challenge Day, where they “courageously open up, dropping their waterlines and revealing who they really are to break down the walls between cliques and work to change their view of school and each other,” according to today’s announcement.
“Challenge Days” were initiated at Falls Church’s George Mason High School in March 2006, with the entire junior class at the school participating, funded by a grant from Falls Church News-Press owner Nicholas Benton, and has been repeated every year since, paid for out of the F.C. School Board’s adopted budget. This fall, a version of the program will also commence at F.C.’s Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School based on another contribution from Benton.
