Between the Thanksgiving holiday and the Winter Break, every Fall Church City Public Schools student has had an opportunity to participate in a good cause.

Mt. Daniel School first grade classes held food collections and donated hundreds of pounds of food to Columbia Baptist Food Pantry. They also held a school-wide pencil collection drive which netted hundreds of pencils for schools in Ghana.

At Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, each grade was assigned a specific food to donate, and they collected several dozen boxes of food.

The Arlington Food Assistance Center received end-of-year assistance from Mary Ellen Henderson Middle students, who competed to see which class could collect the most food. Ms. McCann’s 5th grade class won the contest with the school contributing more than 900 pounds of food.

At George Mason High School, students collected food before Thanksgiving that went to SERVE, and the students donated money to the annual Winter Wishes campaign. Each class adopted children, and some class members shopped for toys and gifts to deliver.
