Police Investigate Apparent Murder-Suicide in McLean

UPDATE: Police have identified the deceased psychiatrist as Dr. Mark Lawrence, 71 of 8612 Tebbs Lane, McLean and his patient as Barbara Newman, 62 of 9694 Farmside Place, Vienna. Both died of gunshot wounds. The investigation is continuing.

Police are investigating the deaths of two people in a home in the 8600 block of Tebbs Lane in McLean.

Police were called to the home at approximately 4:15 p.m. today, Friday, for a report of gunshots. Officers located the bodies of two people; a man and a woman on the premises.

The man has been preliminarily identified as a 71-year-old resident of the home where he lived and worked as a psychiatrist. The woman, 62, had been his patient. Detectives have preliminarily determined that the patient shot the doctor, then herself.

Identification of the man will be withheld pending an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner. The woman’s identify will be are withheld until family members are notified. The investigation is continuing.
