Va. Gov. McDonnell: Power Outages, Road Closings Widespread in State

In remarks at midday today assessing the situation in Virginia following Hurricane Irene, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell said that 75 percent of Dominion Power customers in Richmond, 50 percent in Tidewater/Hampton Roads, and 12 percent in Northern Virginia are now without power. He said that 45 primary roads in the state are closed due to fallen trees. Power was lost to a number of 911 call-in centers. The nuclear plants are fine. Navy ships will begin to return to port Monday. All airports operating.
