Falls Church Schools Lose Guba to Retirement, Riccards to Relocation

At last night’s Falls Church School Board meeting, it was announced that two major components of the City’s school system will be leaving.

Dr. Gloria Guba announced her retirement, effective the end of the current school year, as assistant superintendent. Guba has led the department of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment since coming to Falls Church in July 2001.

Also, current School Board chair Patrick Riccards announced that he is resigning from the board immediately to move to Connecticut to become the chief executive officer of ConnCAN, a statewide education reform advocacy group. A special citywide election will be scheduled soon to fill the remaining two years of Riccards’ term on the board.
