Mustang Hoops Teams Open District Playoffs with Doubleheader Rappahannock Routs

George Mason High School’s girls and boys varsity basketball teams beat Rappahannock County High School Friday during the opening round of the Bull Run District playoffs.

The Lady Mustangs started the doubleheader with a 59-16 win. Senior Lauren Kane led George Mason in scoring with 14 points. Sophomore center Ashley Alexander followed with nine points and senior guard Leah Roth added eight.

George Mason’s boys team also routed Rappahannock County with a 82-30 win. Senior forward Nate Ogle led the Mustangs in scoring with 15 points and senior forward/guard Philippe Griffiths and senior guard Jeremy Stewart added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Both teams have the top seed in the district playoffs and home court advantage throughout the tournament. The Mustangs play Clarke County High School in the semifinal round Tuesday and the Lady Mustangs play their semifinal game against Madison County High School Wednesday. Both games start at 7:45 p.m.
