Chlorine Swap in F.C. Water Planned for Spring Cleaning

From March 26 – May 7, 2012, the disinfectant in the Falls Church Water Utility’s drinking water will temporarily switch from chloramine to chlorine.

The annual switch in water disinfection is part of a routine program to clean and maintain the City of Falls Church’s water distribution system.

During this time, individuals may notice a change in the taste and smell of their drinking water. Running the cold water tap for approximately two minutes and refrigerating cold tap water for a few hours can reduce chlorine taste and odor. Water filters are also effective in reducing chlorine taste and odor.

During the flushing program, customers may notice reduced water pressure or discolored water from disturbed sediments. Discolored water can usually be cleared by running a cold water tap for several minutes, once flushing in the immediate area is completed.
