‘Pushed Too Hard’ Talk to Discuss Student Achievement

Author Alfie Kohn will present “Pushed Too Hard: Parenting and Teaching in an Achievement-Crazy Culture,” this Saturday from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Thomas Jefferson Community Theater in Arlington.

The author of 12 books about education and parenting, Kohn invites parents and educators to rethink basic assumptions about competition, school achievement, and the relationship between how we’re raising our kids and how we hope they’ll turn out. Research shows that affluent, high achieving students are more likely to suffer from depression and less likely to value learning for its own sake.

This lecture commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Montessori School of Northern Virginia and the 40th anniversary of the Montessori School of McLean.

Tickets are $10 and include a meet-the-speaker opportunity as well as light refreshments following the program. The Thomas Jefferson Community Theater is located at 125 S. Glebe Road, Arlington. For more information, visit msnv.org/kohn.
