McLean High Grad Shows Saber Skills on College Team

McLean High School graduate Tom Bienvenu, a saberist for the Cleveland State University Vikings, placed ninth this past weekend at the NCAA Fencing Midwest Regional Championships.

Bienvenu has had a strong season for CSU, amassing 19 wins against only three losses at the Midwest Conference Championships, taking seventh place in the men’s saber individual competition, and achieving a record of 86 wins with only 20 losses. In addition to achieving a perfect record at the Case Western University Duals (15-0) and Cleveland State University Duals (18-0), Bienvenu picked up 13 wins against only five losses at the Notre Dame University Duals and medaled at the John Szent Kiraly Memorial Open, taking bronze in the men’s senior saber competition.

Currently ranked a ‘B 2011’ by the United States Fencing Association, Bienvenu trains at the Virginia Academy of Fencing in Springfield.
