Kincaid Wins Dem Nomination For Sheriff of Fairfax County

Capt. Stacey Kincaid, a 26-year-veteran of the Fairfax Sheriff’s Office, won the Democratic nomination for Fairfax Sheriff in an Assembled Caucus of registered voters of Fairfax County and Fairfax City held at Woodson High School yesterday. She defeated her opponent, Acting Sheriff Mark Sites, by approximately a 2-to-1 margin. Over 950 voters participated in the caucus.

“I am both proud and humbled by this show of support from a broad array of constituencies within our community,” Capt. Kincaid said. “I want to ensure that the Sheriff’s Office fulfills its responsibilities in the most effective and cost-efficient manner possible by focusing on three key initiatives: fostering diversity, engaging the community and moving the Office forward. And I’m looking forward to campaigning with the Terry McAuliffe team and our great candidates for the House of Delegates.”

Capt. Kincaid has been employed by the Sheriff’s Office since 1987 and has worked in all four divisions within the agency, which include Correctional Services, Administrative Services, Support Services and the Court Services Division. She received the agency’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, in 2008.

Capt. Kincaid, who would become the first female Sheriff in Fairfax County, was endorsed by the Fairfax Deputy Sheriffs Union, SEIU Virginia 512, the Fairfax County Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics Local 2068, several State Democratic elected officials, and several members of the Fairfax County School Board.

A special election for Fairfax County Sheriff, resulting from the retirement of Sheriff Stan Barry on July 1, 2013, will coincide with the Virginia General Election on Nov. 5, 2013.
