Mason’s Zackrison Wins F.C. Rotary Music Contest

405rotaryLocal students participated in the Falls Church Rotary Club music competition on March 13 at George Mason High School. Kalila Zackrison (second from left) was awarded $100 for first place for her flute recital of Claude Debussy’s “Syrinx.” By winning the club’s competition, Zackrison advances to the Rotary District semifinals in Fredericksburg on April 12 to compete with winners of other Northern Virginia Rotary Club contests for $3,000, $1,000, and $500 one-year college scholarships for music study. Soprano Alexandra Smith (second from right) received $50 for second place for her rendition of Mozart’s “Vedrai Carino,” accompanied by piano. Zackrison and Smith are George Mason High School students.
