F.C. Couple to Celebrate 70th Wedding Anniversary

J. Cortland Peret and Barbara Ann Albrecht of Falls Church will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on June 30.

Cortland and Barbara met as college students in Columbia, Missouri. Their first date was to attend a weekly meeting of the Presbyterian Students Association in December 1941, and they were later married at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia.

Their first child, Cortland William, was born August 2, 1947. Their second child, Anne Elizabeth, was born April 1, 1955. After Cortland completed studies for a PhD in Economics in 1956, the family then moved to Falls Church, where Cortland joined the Federal Reserve Board and spent his career in its Bureau of Research and Statistics at the Board of Governors. He retired in 1982.

The couple celebrated previous milestone anniversaries, with European trips (30th and 40th); a family reunion (50th), and a cruise up the Mississippi River from St. Louis to St. Paul (60th). They will enjoy a special dinner with their two children on June 30, at their home in Falls Church.
