F.C. Resident, 2010 Graduate of GMHS Dies at Age 22

Rachel Lindner Leahy, 22, died on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014 at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, where she was being treated for liver and kidney failure as a result of a sudden and unexplained illness. Rachel grew up in Falls Church City, Va. She attended Mount Daniel and Thomas Jefferson Elementary Schools, George Mason Middle and High School.

She also attended Marymount International School in Paris from 1999 to 2001. Rachel graduated from George Mason High School in 2010. She subsequently attended Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, where she graduated in May 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in English. After graduation, Rachel was employed at Guilford as an associate in the Offices of Admission and Communications & Marketing. She also worked as a teaching assistant in the English department.

Rachel is survived by her parents, Michael Leahy and Deborah Lindner; grandparents, Joan Carson, Virgil and Genevieve Leahy, and Charles and Peggy Lindner; six aunts and uncles; six cousins; her cherished dog Toby; and her other dog Chloe. She will be deeply missed by her family and countless friends.

A Meeting for Worship in the Manner of Friends (Quakers) to remember Rachel Leahy was held at Guilford College on Nov. 12.

A reception in honor of Rachel’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 3:30 p.m. at the Langley Hill Friends meetinghouse, located at 6410 Georgetown Pike, McLean. Attendees are requested to bring their favorite pictures or stories of Rachel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Rachel Lindner Leahy Memorial Fund.
