Arlington Remembers John H. Langston Elementary School

The Hall’s Hill/High View Park community in Arlington will continue its 150th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, June 4 from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. at the Langston –Brown Community Center with Remembering John H. Langston Elementary School.

Remembering John H. Langston Elementary School is a day-long event featuring a round table discussion from 2 – 4 p.m. with former faculty, staff and students from the original Langston School, which was open from 1926-1966. An inter-generational oral history workshop conducted by Dr. Lauranett Lee, former curator of African-American history at the Virginia Historical Society, will immediately follow the Round Table Discussion.

There will also be a moon bounce, face painting, balloon animals, exhibits on local history, video screenings, retro games, a vintage car show, Fire Station #8 Engine on display, health screenings and a scavenger hunt of Historic Neighborhood Sites.

To close out the night there will be a sock hop dance beginning at 8 p.m. featuring 1950s best dressed and hand dancing contests with music from WPFW’s Capt. Fly. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit highviewpark.com.
