by SeoJin Ahn

The Alden recently announced its 2016-2017 McLean Kids Performance Series, which will include a mix of performances designed to entertain families with young children. All of the performances will be held at theater’s location at the McLean Community Center, located at 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean.

The Okee Dokee Brothers, Grammy Award-winning folk and roots musicians, consist of Justin Lansing and Joe Mailander who have been exploring the outdoors since their childhoods together. These adventures have been translated into their songs written by campfires and harmonies born on the water. The concert will be for ages 4 and up and will take place Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 and 4 p.m. Tickets for the performance will cost $10 – $15.

Dallas Children’s Theater will be performing “Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters”, a musical adaptation of the award-winning Cinderella tale. When a great African king desires a wife, Mufaro’s two daughters embark on a journey to meet the king. Along the way, they encounter mysterious situations that test their courage, kindness, and strength of spirit. With the authentic African drumming and powerful choreography paired with an original soundtrack, the richness of Zimbabwe and the African continent is brought to life on stage. This show will be for ages 5 and up on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. Tickets for the performance will cost $10 – $15.

The Amazing Max will perform on Saturday, February 4 at 2 p.m. and tickets for the performance will cost $10 – $15. Recommended for children ages 5 and up, the delightful magic show will combine magic and comedy. Max Darwin will make objects appear and disappear, defy the laws of physics and allow the audience to interact with the high-energy, all-around silly show.
