There’s no beating a burger. Let me rephrase that: There’s no beating a beef burger. No other animal – four-legged, winged or otherwise – can hold a candle to the cow. Not turkey, not chicken and definitely not any kind of bean or fish. I have lived by this credo for most of my adult life, scoffing at turkey burgers, thumbing my nose at salmon patties and flat-out ignoring anything coming out of a Boca box.

That is, however, until I made a trip to 2941 Restaurant.

The swanky, fine dining joint on Fairview Park Drive has one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Period. And I eat a lot of burgers.

The burger is amazing. It’s rich, bold, meaty, fatty, luscious, bursting with flavor on each bite. It’s everything a burger should be. It’s not only one of the best burgers in Falls Church, it could be the best burger in the whole D.C. area.

Oh, did I mention it’s a duck burger?

Yes, the Daffy – if the name didn’t give it away – is anchored by a fresh-ground patty made up of duck breast and leg mixed with some Hudson Valley foie gras and then topped with thin slices of even more foie gras. Sending the whole thing to the next level is the onion agrodolce coming on the side, a sweet-sour-and-slightly-spicy mix meant to put on top of the patty. The acid from the agrodolce helps cut through the fat of the duck and makes for one of the most blissful burger experiences I’ve ever had.

Sorry, cows.
