There’s a big difference between the Republican and Democratic campaigns: The Republicans have split on policy grounds; the Democrats haven’t. There’s been a Republican divide between center and right but no Democratic divide between center and left.
Fall is in the air (finally!) and elections are coming soon. The yard signs are sprouting, the mail is coming fast and furious, and cable TV ads are proliferating.
President Bush’s performance through the fifth anniversary memorials and remembrances of Sept. 11, 2001 was pathetic. It offered nothing that could assure a now thoroughly disbelieving nation that he’s steering the nation on, or better, back onto, the right track.
The war and the U.S. occupation of Iraq are certainly going to be the crowning issues in the Nov. 7 mid-term elections.
